Addressing a media briefing organized at the Chinese Embassy to inform about the latest leadership handover and its new plans and polices on Sunday, Ambassador Wu said China is committed to take the relations with its neighbors, including Nepal, to a new height. “We support each other and help each other. Indeed, we are friends in need,” the envoy said of Nepal-China relations.[break]
The envoy, who assumed his new diplomatic assignment in Kathmandu last week, said China always stands ready to extend all necessary support to Nepal when Nepal faces threats to its sovereignty. “It is the Chinese government´s policy to support Nepal safeguard her sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he said.
The envoy said China would like to bring more economic benefits to the neighboring countries through the ever growing Chinese economy. “Of course, Nepal will be the priority,” he further said.
“Together with the common efforts we wish to take ahead projects, including Kathmandu Ring Road, Pokhara airport and other bilateral projects,” he added.
More than 20 Chinese companies have committed investments worth US $100 million. Projects such as West Seti Hydropower Project, Pokhara International Airport, the upgrading of Kathmandu Ring Road have already made positive progress.
On the occasion, the envoy also said that China will focus on increasing cultural and people-to-people exchanges to further promote relations with neighboring countries. “Last year, Nepalese embassy in Beijing organized a Nepal cultural festival in Beijing. This year, we will show you Chinese culture and, display a variety of things to you,” he said.
Media persons were shown video footage of the press conference organized by China´s newly-elected Prime Minister Li Keqiang after assuming his post last week and were given information on various aspects of Chinese politics and its plan and policies. It was informed that China attaches greater importance with its neighbors and other countries in the Asia Pacific region.
