KATHMANDU, March 13: The People's Republic of China has congratulated the newly elected President Ram Chandra Paudel.

On behalf of the government of China, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Chen Song congratulated Paudel on being elected as the President and wished him a successful tenure.

Ambassador Song also expressed his belief that China-Nepal friendship would be further strengthened under the leadership of President Paudel.

Similarly, the United States of America has congratulated Ram Chandra Paudel on his appointment as the new President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal.

"We would like to congratulate the newly elected Right Honorable President of Nepal Ram Chandra Paudel," reads a statement issued by the US embassy in Kathmandu. "The United States wishes him a successful tenure."

Earlier, the Indian President Draupadi Murmu and Pakistani President Arif Alvi had extended congratulations to President Paudel.

The newly-elected President Paudel assumed office at the Office of the President, Sheetal Niwas after taking the oath of office and secrecy on Monday. Paudel was elected as the President by a majority of the electoral college including members of federal parliament and the provincial assembly on March 9.
