NEPALGUNJ, August 20: A child has died after drowning in a pond in Janaki Rural Municipality of Banke. 


DSP Ram Prasad Gharti Magar, Spokesman at the District Police Office, Banke, informed that a seven-year-old boy, Sanju Karabal, a resident of Chhabbanpurwa in Janaki Rural Municipality-5 died on Saturday morning.

Tikanath Yadav, Ward Chairman of Janaki Rural Municipality-5, said that the child died after drowning in a pit of about 10 feet deep dug by the Ambe Steels industry for the construction of a wall.


"The child died when he went to defecate this morning because the water had stagnated in a hole dug by the Ambe Steels Industry about 10 feet deep," he said.


According to Ward Chairman Yadav, the boy went out to defecate around 5 AM. The local residents are now protesting with the demand that the culprits of the incident should be punished and compensation should be given to the victim's family.


DSP Ghartimagar said that the incident is being investigated.
