The students, who have been conned, have been making the rounds of the institute´s Kathmandu office. Students have paid over Rs 60 million to the institute. Samip Koirala, a student from Kathmandu, rued that the day he enrolled at the institute.
Shivani Air of Bharatpur, Chitwan, was established as the country´s first pilot training institute. It had 31 students from various districts. It had been providing training at Bharatpur airport even without reaching any agreement with the airport. Moreover, the institute has not even paid a single penny to the airport in the last three years, according to the chief of the airport Laxmi Parajuli.
Chewan Kumar Shrestha, who has invested Rs 8 million for the institute, said Basnet has been out of contact for the last 30 days. Other promoters of the institute have been searching for Basnet, he added. The institute was supposed to provide training for 14 months. For the purpose, it had collected Rs 2 million from each student. Mohan Adhikari, Mehdi Raj Sharma and Asharani Nasnet are among other major promoters of the institute. They are in contact with the students.
Another student Dikkal Jha said, “Other promoters are in contact and we are holding talks about the training and the money we paid for the training.”
Meanwhile, Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal has formed a three-member panel led by flight security department´s technician Amar Bahadur Shakya to probe into the case. Director at CAAN Ram Prasad Nyaupane said the authority has not been able to contact the promoters so far. “While the chief person (manager) is at large, others receive calls,” he said. Shivani Air has not paid any rent to CAAN and landing fee to airport authorities.
