KATHMANDU, Jan 30: CPN-UML has failed to strike deal on the election of Provincial Chief Ministers.
A standing committee meeting of the party held on Tuesday decided that those failing to garner full-support will be elected by party parliamentary members of the Province Assembly through the election process.
Provincial Assembly member Shankar Pokharel has been elected unopposed as the Chief Minister of Province-5.
According to party Vice-Chairman Bhim Rawal, Chief Ministers will be appointed once the first provincial assembly meeting prepares working procedures.
He said, "UML also decided that the voters will be briefed on the voting process of National Assembly election till February 4."
UML and Maoist Center have already agreed to share chief ministers in the seven provinces. According to the agreement, UML will bag five and Maoist Center will have two Chief Ministers.
