Chief Minister Shahi, who belongs to the CPN (Maoist Center), resigned from the post after three years and eight months in office as per gentleman agreement to hand over power to the Nepali Congress (NC). He had fallen into minority after the split of CPN-UML earlier this year.


In his address to people in Karnali Province on Monday evening, Chief Minister Shahi had elaborated achievements of his government. He said that he decided to step down to pave the way to form a new government under the leadership of NC. "I resigned from the post to establish the politics of honesty and integrity," he said.
