At a press meet organized by the Front´s Gorkha district committee here on Thursday, the Front also sought exclusive rights for Chepangs to water, land, forest, herbs and mines in such a state. The Front´s Gorkha president Krishna Chepang said the Front plans to develop Chepang dominated areas as base areas of Chepangs. The Front also demanded primary education in Chepang language.
The second district convention of the Front on Saturday elected a new 35-member district committee.
Meanwhile, Gorkha DDC distributed school dress, educational materials and scholarship to students from the minority Chepang community in Ghyalchowk, Bhumlichowk, Tanglichowk, Makaising and Taklung VDCs under the Chepang Development Project.
Primary school students were provided with dress and educational materials, lower secondary students with dress, educational materials and Rs 600 scholarship and 15 secondary students with dress, educational materials and Rs 4000 scholarship. The project distributed the support from the money it received from the Indigenous Nationalities Uplift National Foundation.
There are 965 Chepang students in primary level, 143 in lower secondary level and 22 in secondary level in the said VDCs.
