Chaudhary, Thapa win PoTY

KATHMANDU, Feb 9: The departmental teams Armed Police Force Club’s Saraswati Chaudhary and Nepal Police Club’s Kul Bahadur Thapa have won the player of the year awards in Kathmandu on Saturday. 

In the award ceremony organized by the Nepal Volleyball Association (NVA), Chaudhary bagged the prize in the women’s category, while Thapa was adjudged to be the best player in the men’s. 

Likewise, Police’s Usha Bhandari and the other departmental team, Tribhuvan Army Club’s Sharan Samri Chhetri were named the rising talent in women’s and men’s categories respectively. Also, APF’s Gyanendra Bista and Police’s Saroj Shrestha were given the best coaches in women’s and men’s categories respectively. They all got Rs 25,000 each.

Similarly, APF and Police were adjudged to the best teams of the year. Both the teams were rewarded with a cash prize of Rs 100,000 each. In women’s category, APF had won nine out of 10 categories organized by the NVA, while Police, in men’s category, bagged six wins in nine tournaments to become the best team. 

Likewise, Kopila Uprety, who had been involved in Nepali volleyball for a long time and had retired, was felicitated with a cash prize of Rs 50,000. Uprety started playing volleyball from 2005. Also, during the felicitation program, New Diamond Academy coach Kumar Rai was also named the best coach and was presented with a cash prize of Rs 25,000.
