Chand to join national team in Kuwait on Saturday

KATHMANDU, Aug 16: Nepali international defender Rohit Chand will join the national football team in Kuwait on Saturday. Chand is playing professional football from Indonesia´s top-tier team Persija Jakarta.



Nepali national football team reached Kuwait on Wednesday to prepare for the SAFF Championship to be held in Kathmandu from August 31 to September 11. Nepal will play two friendly matches in Kuwait during the tour. The first match will be played against Kuwait U-20 team on Sunday while the second friendly will be played on August 24, a day before the Nepali team returns home for the SAFF Championship. Earlier, the Nepali team played two friendly matches in Bahrain with the country´s U-23 team and A division club East Riffa. Nepal was defeated 3-0 by the Bahrain youth team while it beat East Riffa 1-0.Chand could not join the team at the start of the tour on August 4 as he was not released by the Indonesian club.



According to Chand´s elder brother Rabindra, the club released him after he picked up his second yellow card in the Indonesian league, thus making him ineligible to play the next match. Chand will miss the remaining five matches of the Indonesian league. Chand has played the full 90 minutes in all 29 matches of the Indonesian Super League so far, scoring twice and providing five assists.

KATHMANDU: The seventh edition of LA/JTI Inter-school Junior Tennis Tournament will begin on August 25 at the Little Angels´ premises at Hattiban and at the Satdobato Tennis Court. A total of 350 players from 40 districts will participate in the event, the organizer Little Angels´ informed on Friday.



 The tournament will feature competitions in U-8, U-9, U-10, U-12, U-16 and U-18 age categories. The boys´ and girls´ U-14 categories will include singles and doubles events while the other age categories will only feature singles events. The expected cost of the event is Rs 500,000.
