POKHARA, July 8: The production of 'Chaite 5' variety of spring paddy has been successful in Pokhara region. Farmers who planted this variety of paddy are happy after the success of the production. The farmers have said that the paddy planted as a test has given good yield.

This variety of paddy was planted by the farmers of Pokhara Metropolitan City-13 Aarwa as a test. Devraj Poudel, chairman of Aarwaghari Kulo Consumer Committee, said that the paddy planted by the farmers has given good yield. He said that the ears and grains were good even though the paddy crop was not threshed. "You are yet to harvest the crop yet, but the yield is very good," he said.

Manhar Kadaria, chief of the agriculture department of the metropolis, said that the paddy planted in four clusters of the metropolis has given good yields to promote the paddy. He claimed that Chaite paddy would yield at least twice as much as last year’s. As the paddy of Chaite-5 variety is fine and sweet to eat, the number of farmers cultivating this paddy is expected to increase in the coming season.
