Founded by a group of aspiring youth with the sole motive of raising awareness on environmental issues among the youth, the organization has consistently worked toward a greener Nepal since its inception in May 2007. [break]
Singer Ciney Gurung, who is also the environment ambassador, has continuously supported the organization for the past three years by composing ‘Hariyo Ban’, the theme song of CGNN, trying to get the message of a greener planet across to young people.
“I believe the youth of today need to understand and work toward environmental issues,” she said, talking to Republica. Gurung shared that since the youth are the future of the nation, it is absolutely important for them to understand the key issues of environmental degradation and to work toward counteracting its effects.
Also present at the event were singer Nirnaya Shrestha and Dawa Thendup Sherpa, program presenters at Image FM 97.9.

While Thendup requested the youngsters to stop using plastic bags and recycled water bottles, Nirnaya pleaded them to refrain from littering roads and public places while considering the environmental impact of such actions.
Various awards were also given away to youngsters for their active involvement in environmental conservation.
Bijay Prajapati, president of CGNN, said he was overwhelmed by the success of the organization and was even more excited to learn about the upcoming ventures.
“For the past four years, I have seen an immense change in people’s attitudes toward the environment,” he said, adding, “Prior to this, when we visited schools asking them to open eco-clubs, all our suggestions were rejected out of hand. But now, today, we have schools coming to us for collaboration.”
CGNN, along with ICIMOD, Akita Campus Net, Japan, NGO Rasica, Japan, and Lalitpur Sub Metropolitan City, is carrying out various projects like forming eco-clubs, providing trainings and internships to youth on environmental conservation projects.
