Central Region defeated Eastern Region 4-1 in penalties in the final after the regulation time ended in a 2-2 draw and the additional time failed to produce a goal. [break]
The winner bagged a purse of Rs 100,000 and the runner-up Rs 50,000 along with trophies, medals and certificates.
In the entertaining match, Central Region came from two goals down to level the scores during the later stages of the match. Earlier, Eastern Region had taken a seventh minute lead through Shailendra Chaudhary and doubled the tally in the 37th through Samir Tamang.
But Basu Basnet of Central Region cut the goal deficit in the 48th minute and Ganga Ale hit the equalizer in the 69th minute. Neither side was able to score in the additional 15 minutes and the match was decided through penalty shootout.
Deepesh Yonjan, Gaurav Shrestha, Prashant Kunwar and Basu Basnet converted all four spotkicks for Central Region while only Sunil Tamang scored for Eastern Region. Ravi Thapa and Deepak Magar missed their penalties for Eastern Region.
Central Region also dominated the best player awards taking home three of the four awards. Central Region´s Bivek Rai, Deepesh Yonjan and Chhiring Gurung were declared the best goalkeeper, forward and defender respectively. Rabin Gurung of Eastern Region was declared the best midfielder while Prakash Aryal of Central Region won the best coach award.
