KATHMANDU, April 28: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has acquitted actor Sooraj Pancholi in case of late actress Jiah Khan’s abetment of suicide in 2013 due to insufficient evidence today.

According to the Indian news media, Sooraj Pancholi has been cleared of all charges in the Jiah Khan suicide case. Following this, he took to his social media handle to express his reaction for the first time. The actor shared a message on his Insta Story that read, "Truth always wins," accompanied by an emoji of folded hands and a heart. The case was almost concluded during the previous week, but the CBI judge, AS Sayyad, reserved his judgment until today, April 28, 2023, after hearing the arguments.

According to the report of Hindustan Times, Rabia Khan, Jiah's mother, indicated that she would continue to fight for her daughter. She said after the verdict, "The charge of abetment to suicide has gone. But how did my child die? This is a case of murder, will approach the high court,” she said. It was stated that she was cheated on and abused by him and that he had even raped her, following which she had to undergo an abortion. He was even arrested but was later released on bail. Following his bail, Jiah’s mother moved to the Bombay High Court and sought a transfer of the probe to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The central investigating agency then filed a charge-sheet in December 2015 in which they charged Sooraj with abetment of suicide under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code.

The 25-year-old actor was found dead at her home in Mumbai on June 3, 2013. A six-page letter, handed over by her family after Jiah’s death, indicated that she was unhappy living with her boyfriend, actor Sooraj Pancholi. Sooraj, son of actors Zarina Wahab and Aditya Pancholi, was taken into custody a week after her death but was released on bail soon after. In 2014, the Bombay High Court asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate her death.

Jiah Khan was well known for her debut in film Nishabd, Ghajini and Housefull.
