RASUWAGADHI, Sept 18: Following the recent high level Nepal visit by Chinese officials, cargo vehicles from China began entering Nepal via the Rasuwagadhi border point.

China had earlier closed the border point, citing the spread of the coronavirus infection in the Kerung region. With the resumption of import, the cross-border movement of people has gained momentum.

In the past three days, at least 56 Chinese containers entered Rasuwagadhi, Nepal, according to the border security office. As many as 21 Chinese containers entered Nepal every day in the last three days. It has resulted in higher mobility of vehicles and short-term jobs for more people.

In the past, the Chinese customs had sent only 14 containers a day.

The police said that among the goods being imported by Nepali traders in the wake of the upcoming Dashain festival, two containers have walnuts, and 46 have readymade garments. Similarly, seven containers brought the construction materials for hydropower projects being built in Nepal, the customs employees said.

Chief District Officer Nabaraj Jaishi said all containers were sent to Kathmandu via Syafru, Mailung, as the Pasang Lhamu Highway was obstructed.

Trader Dharma Poudel said they thanked Foreign Minister Dr Narayan Khadka for facilitating the import of stuck consignments via diplomatic channel keeping in mind the traders' plight in the face of the Dashain festival.
