JUMLA, Oct 10: A cargo plane of Makalu Air met an accident at Humla Airport, Simikot on Sunday morning. The 9NAJG aircraft that left Surkhet at 6:29 am hit an under-construction fence while landing at the airport at 7:05 am.[break]

Civil Aviation Authority, Humla said the accident occurred due to brake failure. The nose of the plane has been destroyed while the windshield has also been broken.

No human casualty has been reported and the two pilots are safe. “A serious mishap was averted as the pilots were efficient,” Chief of Civil Aviation Authority, Humla Tek Bahadur Patali said.

The plane is currently on the runway and is obstructing landing of other planes. This has affected the only means of transportation in the remote district ahead of the Dashain festival.

“We will call engineers to repair the plane and make the airport functional immediately,” Patali assured.
