"Captive Nepalis safe"

KATHMANDU, July 16: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has clarified that the 13 Nepali workers who were reportedly taken hostage by an Iraqi national are safe in Baghdad.



Issuing a press statement on Thursday, the ministry said the workers were transported back to the Green Zone in Baghdad.



Quoting Dipak Bhattrai, one of the captives and Dhruba Kunwar, a Baghdad-based Nepali, the ministry said those taken hostage were Indra P Bhattrai, Dilip Kumar Sunwar, Tek Raj Rai, Dipak Bhattrai, Laxmi Yonghang, Laxman Thakur, Prem Prasad Koirala, Jai Kumar Rai, Lok Chand Chaulagain, Prem Giri, Tilak Bahadur Thapa, Yogendra Sunwar and Raj Kumar Gurung.



The Iraqi national had reportedly taken them some 400 km far from Baghdad in connection with jobs.
