KATHMANDU, OCT 31: The Rotaract, Leo, and JR Jaycees -- three leading international youth organizations-- have come together to celebrate Nepal Sambat 1131. These clubs are jointly hosting Candle Walk 1131 with the common theme “Youth for Cultural Preservation and Promotion,” they stated in a joint press release.

“Nepal Sambat is celebrated by Nepalis as one of their National Era which falls on day of Laxmi puja during Tihar festival,” according to Assistant Coordinator of JR Jaycees, Krishman Pradhan. [break]

He clarified the belief that Nepal Sambat is only celebrated by the Newars. He said that because it has been started as the National Era by the government it cannot be called a Newari-only-event. “Also, we the youth have to bring about change in such narrow minded thoughts, and celebrate unity,” he said.

The event is open to all interested and the organizers will provide candles on the venue. However, if there is a club wishing to participate, they do have to pre-register which can be done by contacting any of the organizing clubs. The walk will begin from Mangal Bazaar and go through Sundhara, Pulchowk to Banglamukhi and end at Mangal Bazzar.

The event will also have a cultural program prior to the walk which is being organized on November 6, Saturday, 4pm onwards.
