Although CAN President Tanka Angbuhang, who did not return multiple calls seeking comment, is not in favor of the election, majority of the executive members pushed for holding the general assembly on time. The decision to call the general assembly on December 14 and 15 was taken by the present executive committee on November 22.Nevertheless, most of the executive committee members and others put their weight behind the timely election as the four-year term of the current committee is about to end. The existing committee was elected on December 17, 2011.
However, the NSC still holds the trump card on matters related to CAN's election because, as per the statute of CAN, it cannot hold election until the NSC appoints an election committee.
Meanwhile, NSC Member Secretary Keshab Kumar Bista, who was appointed at the office through CPN-UML quota, threatened that the sports governing body would not accept CAN's decision to hold the assembly.
"We will not approve the general assembly of CAN as it has not followed any legal process. The outcome of the assembly will not be acceptable since it is motivated with the view to appoint kith and kins," Bista told Republica over telephone on Sunday.
Bista also informed that he was in discussion with the International Cricket Council to introduce a cricket board to replace CAN as the cricket's governing body in Nepal.
