CAN signs deal with cricketers for a year categorizing their grades

Grading of women cricketers made for the first time in Nepal

KATHMANDU, Sept 23: The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) signed a one-year contract with both men and women cricket players of Nepal on Tuesday.

For the first time in Nepal, the CAN has classified women cricketers as well.

The board meeting of CAN held in Bharatpur and Chitwan made the classification of 37 cricketers including 18 male and 19 female players into grade ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’ and signed contracts accordingly.

As per the grading made by the association, eight male players--- Paras Khadka, Gyanendra Malla, Sandeep Lamichhane, Sharad Veswakar, Karan KC, Basanta Regmi, Deependra Singh Aire and Binod Bhandari--- and five females players--- Rubina Chhetri, Neri Thapa, Indu Sharma, Sita Ranamagar and Karuna Bhandari--- are in grade ‘A’. These male players will receive monthly remuneration of Rs 50,000 and female will receive Rs 15,000.

Likewise, four male players--- Suman Bhari, Sompal Kami, Arif Sheikh and Pawan Saraf--- and eight female players--- Jyoti Pandey, Apsari Begam, Roma Thapa, Bindu Rawal, Kavita Joshi, Reetu Kanaujiya, Kajal Shrestha and Sarita Magar--- have been nominated as grade ‘B’ cricket players. They will receive monthly remuneration of Rs 40,000 and females will receive Rs 12,000.

And, the men cricketers nominated in grade ‘C’ includes Subas Khakurel, Rohit Poudel, Kushal Malla, Ramid Khan, Abinash Bohora and Kamal Singh Eire and the female cricketers in the same grade includes Kabita Kunwar, Doli Bhatta, Anuradha Chaudhary, Sonu Khadka, Anjali Chand and Shova Ale. Men cricketers in this category will receive Rs 30,000 per month while women will receive Rs 10,000.

Earlier in 2019, men cricketers in grade ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘C’ received monthly remuneration of Rs 45,000, Rs 35, 000 and Rs 25,000 respectively.
