Inaugurating the program, Minister for Science and Technology Kalpana Dhamala said the country has been failing to reap benefit from information technology (IT) mainly due to the government´s ignorance.[break]
“We´ve realized that the government agencies must work in collaboration with private sector for the development of IT sector in Nepal,” said Dhamala.
Speaking on the occasion, Santosh Dahal, president of CAN´s Biratnagar chapter, appealed to the minister to develop an IT park in the eastern city.
Responding to Dahal, Minister Dhamala said she would take the initiative for developing IT Park in Biratnagar. “I´ve been working hard to prioritize science and technology in the upcoming budget,” she said, adding that the country´s IT sector is lagging behind because the government allocates just 0.38 percent of its total budget to the sector.
Constituent Assembly member Moti Dugar urged the government to give high priority to the IT sector.
The Info-Tech features a total of 90 stalls.
“Products ranging from 40-year-old computer that weights 50 kg to new models of laptops have been kept on display,” Rajan Lamsal, media coordinator of the event, said.
Information and Communications Technology (ICT) fair, seminar, product demonstration, gaming and free Wi-Fi zones, and career guidance and job fair are the other attractions in the fair.
CAN Biratnagar is expecting turnover worth Rs 1.5 million during the four-day event that will conclude on Monday.
