Speaking at a press meet organized in Kathmandu on Tuesday on the occasion of the organization's silver jubilee, Ceapred Chairman Hari Kumar Upadhyay said commercial farming was a must to drive the country toward economic development. "Instead of encouraging farmers for production for subsistence and import substitution, we should now emphasize on cash crops and commercial farming," said Upadhyay.
Stating that Ceapred was implementing its activities in of local people, he also said that the organization will continue to work with farmers to address their issues and problems in a holistic approach. "Starting from production of local seeds to cultivation and marketing of farm produce, the organization is working with the farmers in a holistic approach," he added.
The organization has already served around 265,269 households by involving them in 14,000 farmer groups, according to a statement. It has also offered various trainings related to agriculture sector to more than 800,000 farmers in 24 year of operation.
The organization is currently working in 26 districts across the country. "Farmers have already earned Rs 6.5 billion from the activities and projects carried out by the organization," the organization claimed in the statement.
