Cabinet to discuss retiring 13,500 civil servants

KATHMANDU, Feb 26: The cabinet is meeting at Singha Durbar at 3 p.m. Thursday to discuss voluntary retirement scheme for civil servants and transfers and promotions in police, according to Kantipur FM. The meeting is likely to endorse a proposal by Ministry for General Administration to give voluntary retirement to about 13,500 civil servants. If the proposal is passed then those who have completed 50 years of age or spent 20 years in government service can retire voluntarily. They will receive seven years´ pensions in lump sum. According to government estimates, it will cost the government Rs 1 billion if those meeting the retirement criteria under the scheme offered to retire from service.
