KATHMANDU, Sept 14: Prime Minister K P Oli has called a cabinet meeting at 5PM today. Sources say that the meeting is likely to reappoint Kul Man Ghising to the post of managing director of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) for a second four-year term. Ghising retired on Sunday.
According to sources, Minister for Energy Barsha Man Pun is tabling the proposal to reappoint Ghising for another four-year term. The government's nod to give continuity to Ghising as the chief executive of the state-owned power utility comes amid mounting public pressure. The cabinet meeting is also likely to make decisions on a few other appointments, including the decision to recommend the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Vice Chairman Bam Dev Gautam to the National Assembly. Earlier, the party's Secretariat meeting had unanimously decided to nominate Gautam to the upper house. The seat has remained vacant since former finance minister Yuba Raj Khatiwada’s two-year term expired some six months ago.
PM Oli held a meeting with the party's other Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Sunday evening to discuss the appointments. Sources said the two leaders have also reached an understanding to expedite appointments to various constitutional bodies, including the chief and commissioners at the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA).
