Cabinet decides to recruit 45,000 temporary police for CA polls

KATHMANDU, Sept 13: The government has decided to recruit 45,000 temporary police  for the purpose of Constituent Assembly elections.



A cabinet meeting held on Friday evening endorsed a proposal forwarded by the Ministry of Home Affairs to hire temporary police for two months.



The meeting also appointed Janardan Nepal as a new home secretary as incumbent home secretary Nabin Ghimire retired from the civil service effective from Friday. Earlier,  Nepal was a secretary at the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies. [break]



Similarly, the cabinet meeting has endorsed the resignation tendered by secretary at the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction, Dharanidhar Khatiwada.



After months-long dillydallying, the government had recently received consent from the Election Commission (EC) to hire temporary security personnel at polling booths during the upcoming Constituent Assembly (CA) election.



The constitutional body, had sent a letter to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA), which is responsible for managing poll security, stating that the ministry can proceed with recruiting temporary security personnel for the CA poll scheduled for November 19.
