KATHMANDU, Aug 28: The Constituent Assembly (CA) Committee on Determining Judicial System has voted for yet another provision backed by the Unified CPN (Maoist) on Friday in favor of the parliament having the final authority to interpret the constitution and the laws.

The Maoist-backed provision received 20 votes while the proposal to continue present system of providing final authority to the Supreme Court backed by Nepali Congress and CPN-UML received 19 votes.

This is the fourth time in as many days that the committee voted on provisions relating to the judiciary. The Maoists have majority in the committee.

The committee however can only make recommendation to the CA and the CA has to endorse it.
