By-polls candidates nominations conclude successfully in Chitawan, Bara and Tanahu

KATHMANDU, April 4: Nomination of candidates for the April 23 by-election in Chitwan-2,  Tanahun-1 and Bara-2 was filed on Monday. 

The registration took place at the office of chief district election officer in these three constituencies between 10 am and 5 pm.

Four candidates have registered their nomination  in Bara-2.  Candidates belonging to the Hamro Nepali Party and Nepal Workers and Peasants’ Party and two independents candidates have filed their nomination for the by-election to be held in Bara-2.

Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Chairman Upendra Yadav is also contesting from this constituency. He is supported by the Nepali Congress, the CPN (Maoist Center), the Loktantrik Samajwadi Party and the Unified Socialist Party of Nepal. 

Shiva Chandra Kushwaha from Janamat Party, Purushottam Paudel from CPN-UML and Ramesh Kharel from Rastriya Swatantra Party have also registered their nomination for the by-election.

Ram Sahay Yadav, who was recently elected as Vice President of Nepal, was elected from the JSP in the elections held on November 20. While Yadav was elected with 13,822 votes, his closest rival Shiva Chandra Prasad Kushwaha of the Maoist Center secured 13,468 votes. After the Maoist Center supported Upendra Yadav, Shiva Chandra decided to quit the Maoist Center and become a candidate from the Janamat Party.

NC leader Jeet Narayan Shrestha has filed his candidacy for the post of member of the House of Representatives (HoR) for the by-election to be held in Chitwan-2.

Shrestha reached the Office of the Chief Returning Officer in Bharatpur at 3:15 pm and registered his candidacy for the by-election slated for April 23. Shrestha's supporters include CPN (Maoist Centre) leader Ram Chandra Adhikari and NC District Committee President Rajeshwar Khanal.

President of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Rabi Lamichhane has registered his candidacy for the post of Member of the House of Representatives in Chitwan Constituency-2. UML district chairman Ram Prasad Neupane has also registered his candidacy for the by-election in Chitwan-2.

Meanwhile, CPN-UML candidate Sarbendra Khanal has registered his nomination for the by-elections to be held on Tanahun 1.

His proponent is Bhagwati Neupane and his supporter is Bahadur Rana.

Gobind Bhattarai from the Nepali Congress (NC) and Swarnim Wagle from the Rastriya Swatantra Party also filed their nominations from this constituency. 

The Election Commission had fixed the time for nominations till 5 o'clock on Monday for the polls to be held on April 23.
