Unidentified gunmen shot businessman Ramesh Bhandari, the owner of Bhandari Cereal Store, and his wife Asha at Sangampath, Butwal on Wednesday afternoon.
Asha was shot in the chest and the side of the abdomen and died on the spot while Ramesh was shot twice in the neck and breathed his last while being taken to Lumbini Zonal Hospital.
The assailants - two of Madhesi origin on a Pulsar motorcycle and one on foot - fled away after shooting the couple, according to police.
Superintendent of Police Sher Bahadur Basnet informed that the police was hopeful of nabbing the assailants very soon as they have intensified the search.
Butwal bazaar remained closed from 12 to 2 pm over the death of the couple.
