RAUTAHAT, Sept 14: Daily life in Rautahat district has been severely affected due to the indefinite strike called by Rautahat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), protesting the highhandedness of the Armed Police Force (AFP) personnel.

According to Dipesh Shrestha, Chairperson of Samanpur Business Association, markets remained closed in Garuda, Shivanagar, Bangkul, Samanpur, Gangapipara, and Katahariya VDCs of the district, while vehicles stayed off the roads. [break]

The businessmen resorted to protests after an APF team led by Inspector Kesab Raj Basti seized goods imported by businessmen from India. The APF team had handed over the seized goods to the Customs Office, claiming that the goods had been illegally imported from India. The businessmen have demanded that their good be returned to them.

“The goods were sized even as we produced all the documents required in importing goods from India. We won´t tolerate highhandedness of the police,” said Chairperson of CCI Rautahat chapter Dev Prasad Gupta.

CCI on Saturday afternoon took out a motorcycle rally in Gaur chanting slogans against the APF personnel.

Meanwhile, Rautahat Chief District Officer Dil Bahadur Ghimire said they are trying their best to restore normalcy in the district.
