BUSINESS BRIEFS: Thai, Qatar for tourism cooperation

KATHMANDU, June 15: Governments of Qatar and Thailand have sent separate proposals to Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoTCA) for bilateral tourism cooperation.



According to Murari Bahadur Karky, joint secretary at MoTCA, the government has taken the proposals positively. Both the countries have proposed cooperation in airlines, travel fairs, joint tour programs, education, sports and establishing joint working groups for tourism promotion. [break]



Karky told myrepublica.com that Thailand has proposed to provide significant help in the promotion of Lumbini and Janakpur. "Thailand is interested in development of Janakpur because King of Thailand has shown keen interest in Janakpur,” Karky added.





NMB CEO feted



KATHMANDU, June 15: Upendra Poudel, the chief executive officer of NMB Bank Ltd, has been honored with ´Rastriya Sewa Samman-2009/2010´.



Nepal Youth Society honored Poudel, recognizing his contribution in the field of economic policy and the development of nation´s economy.



The society was formed with the objectives of developing our nation and helping handicapped and needy people.





Laxmi Bank ties up with Bank of China



KATHMANDU, June 15: Laxmi Bank has formally established a correspondent banking relationship with Bank of China (BoC). BoC is the largest commercial bank in China.



“This tie up will facilitate trade and payments between customers of both banks,” Laxmi Bank said in a press statement issues on Tuesday. Local business representatives of Chinese companies looking to do business in Nepal will also benefit from this arrangement.



Laxmi Bank aims to position itself as a key partner bank for international trade and payments. Standard Chartered, HSBC, Citibank, Commerzbank and ICICI Bank are some of its international correspondent banks, according to the statement.





New Yamaha generator in market



KATHMANDU, June 15: Morang Auto Works (MAW), the sole distributor of Yamaha generators for Nepal, has introduced the eco-friendly and silent generator EDL13000STE (12.5KVA Power Rating) in the market.



“This is diesel-operated generator with very low fuel and lube consumption,” Santosh Bhattarai, sales manager of Morang Auto Works, said in a statement on Tuesday.



"The newly launched generator with Japanese technology is state-of-art in its category, comes with negligible smoke emission and is ideal for commercial establishments,” the statement added.



MAW recently organized road shows for this model in Kathmandu, Narayanghat, Sauraha and Pokhara.
