BUSINESS BRIEFS: NRB rules out review on exchange rate

KATHMANDU, May 24: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has clarified that there is no need to change the exchange rate of Nepali Currency (NC) vis-a vis Indian Currency (IC) with which NC is pegged.



Issuing a press statement on Monday following media reports about the revision in the exchange rate, the central monetary authority rule out any such possibility given the positive functioning of existing foreign exchange rates in maintaining economic stability in the country. [break]





Pro Biotech´s new feed



KATHMANDU, May 24: Nimbus Group´s Pro Biotech has started producing a new feed named ´Shakti Hi-Gain´ which helps chicken grow and become ready for sale a week faster than they would grow on normal feed.



“This feed has more protein and oil than regular feed,” Pro Biotech said in a statement on Sunday. The feed is becoming more popular among poultry farmers as it helps chicken grow faster, the statement added.



Pro Biotech hopes that the new feed would help reduce production cost for the farmers. Nimbus is the first company in Nepal to produce pellet feed for livestock.





Yasuda launches Q5



KATHMANDU, May 24: Call Mobility Pvt Ltd, the sole authorized distributor of Yasuda mobile phones in Nepal, has launched a new set named Q5 in the market.



“Q5, as the name suggests, is a full QWERTY keyboard handset with camera, FM radio, video player, Bluetooth, MP3 and MP4 players. The phone supports Micro SD card and dual GSM SIM cards,” Call Mobility said in a statement on Monday. The handset comes with preloaded Facebook, MSN (e-buddy) and Yahoo applications.



Call Mobility is also giving away 2 GB memory card free with every purchase of Q5 which is priced Rs 5090. This Yasuda set comes with one year warranty on handset and 6 months warranty on battery.





Laxmi Bank launches eSewa Savings



KATHMANDU, May 24: Laxmi Bank Ltd has introduced ´eSewa Savings´ in coordination with F1Soft International.



Issuing a press statement, the bank said the joint initiative has been started to bring customers the first of its kind online payment service attached to savings account. “This is an effort to promote online transaction habits among our customers,” the statement added.



The new scheme offers 7.5 percent interest on daily balances and package of paperless banking suit at Rs 500, according to bank. It also offers a substantial discount as a reward for their progressive banking habits. Moreover, the customer shall also get Rs 100 deposited in their eSewa account by F1 Soft International, the statement added.



According to the bank, eSewa is the product of F1Soft International and Laxmi Bank is the first partner bank and the settlement bank for eSewa transactions. The eSewa Savings package includes ATM Card, internet banking access and mobile money services.





BoK´s new saving scheme for kids



KATHMANDU, May 24: Bank of Kathmandu Ltd on Monday introduced a new saving account “Nava Kopila Bachat Khata” in line with the existing social campaign ´Save for the Future´.



“Understanding the need of parents to save for the better future of their children in terms of providing education and fulfilling other social obligations, the account is designed to provide interest at the rate of 7.5 percent per annum, along with several other benefits such as contribution of Rs 100 from the bank immediately after the opening of account and cash gift of Rs 133.33 on child´s birthday every year,” the bank said in a statement.



The account holders will also be entitled to several other modern facilities offered by the bank.
