BUSINESS BRIEFS: Mega, Helvetas sign pact on micro-enterprise

KATHMANDU, Oct 17: Mega Bank and Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation Nepal have signed a memorandum of understanding to implement joint programs on entrepreneurship development and employment generation in the agricultural sector. The agreement was signed by Mega Bank CEO Anil Keshary Shah and Helvetas Country Director Shiva Prasad Aryal amidst a program held in Kathmandu on Wednesday.



"Under this joint initiative, Mega will provide credit, including micro, to those who have received vocational training through support of Helvetas," says a statement issued by Mega Bank. [break]



The bank is initially planning to implement the programs in eight districts, including Rautahat, Sarlahi, Bara, Parsa, Banke, Bardiya, Kailali and Kanchanpur. Helvetas has been operating a project called Elam since 2004, under which jobless youths are extended vocational training so that they can get absorbed in the job market or create self-employment opportunities for themselves.



Mega Bank had previously made similar alliance with Practical Action in Nepal, an European Union funded INGO, to provide financial services to dairy farmers based in Dhading district.



Nabil to give 60% dividend



KATHMANDU
: Nabil Bank is extending 60 percent dividend, including 40 percent cash and 20 percent bonus shares, to its shareholders, according to a bank statement. The decision was approved by the 28th annual general meeting of the bank held in Kathmandu on Wednesday. Nabil, which has total assets of Rs 63.25 billion, generated net profit of Rs 1.7 billion last fiscal year ended July 15. Speaking on the occasion, Shambhu Prasad Poudyal, chairman of Nabil, said: "Nabil is at the summit of the banking sector today due mainly to its customer focused approach and better risk management system."



Everest launches pizza deposit scheme



KATHMANDU
: Everest Bank has launched a new fixed deposit product called ´Everest Pizza Deposit´ targeting individuals and institutions that provides flexibility in long-term investment. "This is a unique kind of fixed deposit scheme introduced for the first time in Nepal as it allows customers to withdraw up to 50 percent of the original deposits even before maturity, without any penal charge," a bank statement issued on Wednesday says. The product was launched to mark the 18th anniversary of the bank. To mark the occasion, the bank organized various programs including blood donation camp. The bank also gave away prizes to children of its staff members who scored highest in SLC and higher-secondary level exams, states the statement.



Thapa, Acharya win cash under Red Bull offer



KATHMANDU
: Paras Thapa of Banepa and Narendra Acharya of Pokhara have won Rs 100,000 each under the ´Red Bull Cash Full´ promotional scheme, according to a statement issued on Wednesday.



Thapa and Acharya won the top prize from Red Bull cans purchased from Bhat-Bhateni Supermarket in Bhat-bhateni and Acharya Shopping Center at Srijana Chowk, Pokhara, respectively. Rosy Dhakal of Koteshwar had become the first winner of the cash prize of Rs 100,000. Since the launch of the promotional scheme in July 2012, more than 250 lucky winners across Nepal have claimed prizes of Rs 5,000, Rs 10,000, and Rs 20,000.



Consumers can find the cash prize printed under the pull off ring on the lid of Red Bull can. The lucky winners need to call 01-4444444 to claim the prize money. Winners are required to keep the whole portion of the pull off ring to lay claim on the prize money. The Red Bull promotion cans have a white pull off ring on the lid of the can and the body contains descriptions of "RED BULL CASHFULL" campaign.



Red Bull is one of the most popular energy drinks among the youths around the world. It is available in 250ml golden cans in Nepal.



New handsets of Spice Mobile in market



KATHMANDU:
Teletalk Private limited, authorized distributor of Spice Mobile phones in the domestic market, launched new products such as Boss Champion M 5005n and Boss Don M 5200 handsets on Wednesday.



“M 5005n has 4.5 cm screen whereas M 5200 is with 5.08 cm screen and a speaker,” said a press release issued on Wednesday. “The phones also have inbuilt audio/video player which makes easier to listen to music and watch videos.”



They also have Bluetooth technology and ´Multi SIM capability´ that helps to carry multiple sim cards in a single phone sets, the release said. “The external memory on both of these phones is expandable up to 8 GB,” the release said.



According to the release, there is one year warranty in the mobile handset and six months warranty in the battery and charger. “Prompt and easy maintenance or any other consultations are available in town,” the company said.



Bajajtantra´s 4th week winners

No fresh permit for Afghanistan jobs: DoFE



KATHMANDU
: Amid confusion over the administrative procedures for re-entry of Nepali workers to Afghanistan, the Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE) clarified on Wednesday that the government would not issue any fresh permit for Nepali youths to work in the war-torn South Asian nation. Issuing a press statement, DoFE, however, stated that work permits were being renewed for only those workers who had acquired government permission before leaving for Afghanistan.
