BUSINESS BRIEFS: Kumari introduces new saving account

KATHMANDU, May 16: Kumari Bank has introduced Kumari Big Saving Khata through which customers can get a flat 10 percent interest.



Issuing a press statement on Sunday, the bank said it is offering this double digit interest rate at the minimum balance requirement of Rs 50,000. [break]



“With this new product, consumers no longer need not keep their money in fixed deposit. They can enjoy the high rate of interest in the Saving product itself,” the statement added. The new saving account will be valid till August 17.



The bank said it recorded a growth of 27.66 percent in its net profit in the first nine months of current fiscal compared to the same period last year. The bank has also managed to decrease its non performing loans from 0.82 percent to 0.64 percent and the bank has the capital adequacy ratio of 12.67 percent.



The bank operates with a network of 22 branches and 22 ATM terminals.





Dragonair honors top agents for 2009



KATHMANDU, May 16: Dragonair of Hong Kong recently organized an agency awards function to honor the top performing passenger and cargo agents in Nepal for their contribution to the success of Dragonair´s business in 2009.



Tom Wright, general manager of the airline, and Saurya SJB Rana of Dragonair´s GSA for Nepal, gave away the awards to top travel and cargo agents.



Dragonair and sister airline Cathay Pacific announced profit of HK$4,694 million in 2009. This compares to a loss of HK$8,696 million recorded in the previous year, the airline said in a statement received on Friday.



Dragonair increased its services to Kathmandu from three to five flights a week in October 2009 for the winter season. The schedule has now been reduced to three flights per week.



Dragonair schedule offers great connections to Japan, Australia and North America, with sister airline Cathay Pacific Airways, the statement added.





Guna Airlines in 2nd year



KATHMANDU, May 16: Guna Airlines has entered into the second year of its operation.



The airline that initially started service with one Beechcraft aircraft today has a total of three Beechcrafts in its fleet.



The company flies five times a day to Pokhara and two times to Simara. It has also been operating six mountain flights a day.



“We will soon start flights to Janakpur, Bhairawaha, and Bhadrapur,” said Prajwal Thapa, managing director of the airline. Thapa said the airline would soon add a new Beechcraft to its fleet.





Nakarmi wins ´Drink and Win´ contest



KATHMANDU, May 16
: Sunil Nakarmi with coupon No. 217813 has been declared the winner of ´Drink and Win´ contest organized by Vigor Power Energy Drinks.



Issuing a press statement on Sunday, the company said Nakarmi won a laptop as the lucky prize. Under the scheme, a laptop is distributed each month to a winner along with the weekly cash prizes and daily gift hampers.



Consumers of Vigor Power Drinks will get a scratch coupon on the purchase of the drinks and can participate on lucky draw with the coupon number, the statement added.
