Peace torch for NTY 2011 lit
KATHMANDU, Feb 21: Olympian Bimala Rana Magar lit a peace torch at Eternal Peace Flame at Lumbini Sacred Garden on Sunday. The torch will be brought to Kathmandu for the formal launching of Nepal Tourism Year 2011 campaign on February 26.
Issuing a press statement, Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) said Thapa passed on the torch to Acharya Karma Sangbo Sherpa, vice-chairman of Lumbini Development Trust, at the Mayadevi Temple. Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Sharat Singh Bhandari handed over the torch to a team of athletes led by Jit Bahadur KC.
“The team, comprising KC, Magar, Umesh Maskey, Laxman Basnet and Mukunda Hari Shrestha marched to Bhairahawa with the peace torch on Sunday,” the release stated.
According to NTB, the athletes will drive to Narayanghat on Monday and enter Kathmandu on February 24 and hand over the torch to NTB officials.
