For those who really enjoyed Monsters Inc., this prequel is a likeable journey down the memory lane.
What is slightly weak about the movie is the plot line. The characters aren’t your everyday normal, but still the story feels like it’s one that has been seen and heard before.
A ‘loser’ labeled monster Mike Wazowski (voiced by Billy Crystal) who really wants be a Scaring Major joins his dream university, Monsters University, but he is treated like a nobody. He’s a know-it-all but doesn’t really look like a scaring monster and is thus underestimated by everyone. On the other hand, there’s James P Sullivan or Sulley (voiced by John Goodman), who has a reputed family name to live up to (and boast about) and has a roar that impresses the teacher on the very first day. However, he later finds out that that isn’t enough for him to graduate.
After one mistake that might cost them their place in the whole University, Mike and Sullivan have to unwillingly work together to get it all back. They are of course two different characters but are the best of buddies in Monsters Inc. and the audience gets to know how their friendship developed through the roller coaster life of college days.
There are scenes that will make the audience laugh out loud and the screen is always lively with a joyful of color, but was the movie actually in 3D?
While 75% of the movie is predictable storytelling, there’s a 25% savior which ends up pushing the movie from a C to a B+. But before you make up your mind about watching the movie, do check out the Monsters University website, www. monstersuniversity.com!
