“The government will not come up with a partial budget for the next fiscal year. A full budget will be launched in mid-July to rejuvenate the economy,” Koirala said during an interaction with entrepreneurs of Sunsari district on Monday. [break]
As the time for the announcement of the next budget is approaching, Koirala along with Finance Secretary Shanta Raj Subedi met local businesspeople in Biratnagar and Dharan on Sunday and Monday to gather suggestions from the private sector.
“The upcoming budget will not be populist as in the previous years. However, we will give priority to certain sectors, with energy topping the list,” Koirala said. He also said the budget would give priority to infrastructure development, law and order situation, agriculture and tourism.
On the back of growing complains about the deteriorating industrial climate in the country, he also assured that the government would make efforts to create favorable business climate in the country. He, however, indicated that the government would not compromise with anyone trying to hamper the revenue collection drive. “The government will be rigid and show zero tolerance to those who evade taxes. But our intention is not to create obstacles for genuine businesspeople,” he further said.
