KATHMANDU, May 8: The budget session of the federal parliament is beginning this afternoon.
Meetings of both the House of Representatives (HoR) and National Assembly (NA) are scheduled to begin at 4 pm today at the federal parliament building, New Baneswar.
Speaker of the HoR, Agni Prasad Sapkota, and NA Chairman Ganesh Prasad Timalsina will kick start the meetings by reading out a letter from President Bidya Bhandari.
Budget session of Federal Parliament begins today
The Parliament Secretariat said that it is all prepared for the budget session amid coronavirus outbreak fears. Earlier on Thursday, throat swab samples of 179 lawmakers of the Lower House, 33 lawmakers of the Upper House and 229 employees and security personnel working at the Parliament Secretariat were collected for coronavirus testing. The collected swab samples were sent to the Teku-based National Public Health Laboratory.
Those lawmakers, employees and security personnel at the Parliament Secretariat who failed to give their throat samples on Thursday will be tested on Friday before the budget session.
The government is making preparations to announce its annual policies and programs on May 15 and fiscal year budget on May 28.
Earlier on May 3, President Bhandari summoned the budget session of parliament in accordance with Article 93 (1) of the Constitution.
The budget session approves the government’s policies and programs and fiscal budget.
The new session of the federal parliament approves or rejects the bills tabled by the government in the last session. Also, new bills will be registered by the government at the House in the coming weeks.
