British Minister of state Duncan calls on PM, DPM

KATHMANDU, June 27
: Visiting British Minister of State for International Development, Alan Duncan, called on Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai at the Prime Minister´s Office, Singhadurbar Wednesday.



During the meeting, discussions were held regarding the bilateral relations, assistance and mutual interests.[break]



On the occasion, the Prime Minister informed British Minister Duncan about Nepal´s political situation and efforts made for political consensus.



During the meeting, Duncan had asked the Prime Minster about the efforts made for peace building and political stability in Nepal.



Duncan also expressed commitment to increasing assistance to Nepal by the UK government.



The British Minister informed the Prime Minister that the UK government was ready to extend support especially in the sector of disaster management.



Talking to journalists after the meeting, Mr Duncan told journalists that discussions were held regarding bilateral relations and mutual interests.



He said the UK Government wants to see political and economic stability in Nepal.



Earlier this afternoon, Duncan also held discussions with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar.



On the occasion, Duncan also visited the National Disaster Management Center located on the premises of Ministry of Home Affairs.



Duncan calls on Dahal



British Minister of State for International Development, Alan Duncan, called on Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Pushpa Kamal Dahal at the latter’s residence at Lazimpat on Wednesday.



During the meeting, they discussed on various issues including the country´s contemporary political issues, political developments after the dissolution of the Constituent Assembly (CA), fresh CA elections announced by the government for November 22 this year, British assistance to Nepal, said Dahal´s aide, Shiva Khakurel.[break]



Pointing out the need of consensus and cooperation among the political parties after the dissolution of the CA, British Minister of State Duncan urged Dahal to take initiatives for forging consensus as early as possible.



During the meeting, he expressed concerns over the split of the UCPN-Maoist and the activities of the newly formed party.



In response, Dahal said that he has started discussions with political parties for consensus and expressed his confidence that they would reach to a consensus soon, said Khakurel quoting Dahal.



On the occasion, they also discussed on the issues relating to strengthening the mutual relations and increasing the British assistance to Nepal.



Minister of State Duncan arrived here on Tuesday on a three-day official visit to Nepal.
