KAWASOTI, Dec 11: A bridge over Baulaha river at Devchuli – 12 of Nawalparasi along the East-West Highway collapsed this morning after a truck crashed into it.
A west-bound truck (Na 6 Kha 3017) crashed into the bridge after which the bridge collapsed and dangled like a suspension bridge.
The passenger buses and freights have been stranded following the unprecedented incident. Smaller vehicles have been allowed to pass through a section of the bridge that has remained intact, said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Rajesh Thapa, of Area Police Office.
As the bridge collapsed the stranded vehicles formed long queues that have reached Rajhar and Kawasoti areas along the highway. Students heading to Bharatpur College have also been stranded, student Jhalak Poudel said.
