Bridge being built near Lukla

SOLUKHUMBU, Dec 24: Khumbu Pasang Lhamu rural municipality has allocated budget for bridge construction at Lukla Bazar. With an investment of Rs 2 million, the rural municipality is building concrete bridge at Tamang Tole of Ward 2 in Lukla. 

The bridge will be the entrance gate to enter the Khumbu region. As the bridge is the only way to enter the region, the rural municipality is speeding up the construction works, said Lhakpa Chhiri Sherpa, spokesperson of the rural municipality. 

“Crossing the bridge was risky earlier. So we have started work to complete the construction of the bridge within this fiscal year,” he said.  The dilapidated bridge had affected the daily life of the locals as well as the tourists. The rural municipality believes that the reconstruction of the bridge will benefit both the locals and the tourists, said Nim Dorji Sherpa chairperson of the rural municipality.

Expressing gratitude toward the initiation of the rural municipality, Buddhi Tamang, a local, said: “This work of rural municipality is appreciable. Now we don’t have to risk our lives while crossing the bridge.” 

Tamang Tole Bridge Construction Consumer Committee is assigned with construction of the bridge. According to the rural municipality more than 50 percent of the work has been completed till now. 

Meanwhile, the rural municipality is expanding the narrow road of Gumela Basti, Ward 3. The rural municipality has allocated Rs one million for the road construction. The construction will be completed within two months, said Nim Dorji Sherpa
