KATHMANDU, July 7: The government has promoted Additional Inspector General (AIG) Shailesh Thapa to the post of Inspector General (IG) of Nepal Police.
A cabinet meeting held on Tuesday decided to appoint Thapa as the 28th Inspector General of Nepal Police to lead the about 70,000-strong force.
As the incumbent IGP Thakur Prasad Gyawaly is set to retire Wednesday completing his 30-year service, the government picked Thapa as the new top cop of the country.
Two AIGs -- Thapa and Hari Bahadur Pal -- were in the race to become the new chief of Nepal Police.
Thapa will lead the force for the next 22 months.
