Boy without birthcertificate denied enrollment

UDAYAPUR, April 3: At a time when his peers are already studying in grade five, 9-year old Sudip of Lafyang VDC - 9 in Khotang is yet to enroll in school. He has been denied enrollment because he does not have a birth registration certificate.



Lafyang VDC office has refused to register Sudip´s birth as his father´s identity remains unknown.[break]



Sudip is a love child of Sudha Katuwal and Ratna Bahadur Basnet of the VDC. But as his putative father refused to accept that he is the biological father of the boy, Sudip has been denied the birth registration certificate, said Sudha Katuwal, 30, mother of Sudip.



According to Katuwal, she was in love with Basnet some 10 years ago but Basnet abandoned her after he came to learn that she was expecting a child.



Katuwal has current lodged a complaint at Udayapur District Administration Office demanding birth registration certificate for her son.



“I have already ruined my life but I do not want to spoil my son´s future,” said Katuwal. After the child was born from the illicit relationship between Katuwal and Basnet, her family forced her out. She has been taking refuge at her relative´s house since.



Following her complaint, Chief District Officer Umesh Kumar Dahal has directed the police to find out the truth. Likewise, CDO Dahal has also assured Katuwal of marriage registration certificate and birth registration certificate to her son.
