Boxer Shrestha dies at 48

KATHMANDU, March 15: South Asian Games medalist Nepali boxer Krishna Man Shrestha died on Thursday night at the age of 48. Shrestha, who was suffering from motor neuron diseases (MND), breathed his last at the TU Teaching Hospital, Kathmandu.



Shrestha had won a silver medal in the Fifth South Asian Games held in Colombo, Sri Lanka in 1991 and a bronze medal in the Seventh South Asian Games held in Madras, India in 1995.[break]



Shrestha was serving the National Sports Council (NSC) as an assistant coach.



Players and sports personalities paid final tribute to Shrestha at the NSC premises on Friday morning. Nepal Boxing Association (NBA) President Rajiv Shrestha draped Shrestha´s body with the NBA flag while former NBA President Rabi Raj Thapa and others paid floral tribute to the late boxer.



A permanent resident of Naxal, Kathmandu, Shrestha is survived by two sons and a daughter.



Shrestha was cremated at the Pashupati Aryaghat on Friday afternoon.
