Tamang was pregnant for four months. The abortion clinic was illegally run by Kaushila Chaudhari, who has been working as ANM at a community health center in Itahari.
As per the law, only those resisted in Family Health Division for abortion purpose can conduct safe abortion. [break]
“On Monday evening, we paid Rs 15,000 for the abortion. After the abortion, we requested them to let us stay with the patient, but we were sent away,´ informed Sunita Rai, Fulmaya´s sister-in-law.
“Suddenly we received a call at around 2 PM on Tuesday. We hurriedly reached the clinic only to find that she was no more,” Rai added.
Fulmaya´s husband Rajesh informed that they opted for abortion as their first child is only one and a half years old.
“I have been involved in abortion for 20 years now. No woman died in course of abortion in my clinic. This is the first case,” said Kaushila, who is now in police custody.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police, Bidhya Nanda Majhi, Kaushila will be charged for murder as she was running an illegal abortion clinic.
