Police claimed the pressure cooker bomb wrapped in a plastic bag contained two kilograms of explosives and called it ´very powerful´. Underground outfits have been using bombs to terrorize businessmen in Tulsipur for extortion but the police have not been able to nab anyone. [break]
Even the principal of Janajyoti Jeevan Acharya had received a letter from an underground outfit demanding Rs 500,000 sometime ago. The letter from Marxists Young Tigers Group had warned of adverse consequences if their demand was not met.
Private and Boarding School Organization (PABSON) claimed that more than 15 big private schools in the district have received similar letters from the group demanding anything from Rs 100,000-Rs 500,000. The group had also previously set a private school in Tulsipur on fire.
“How can we pay such big amounts at a time when we are facing difficulty to just operate the schools,” Dang PABSON President Keshav Thapa said. PABSON, on its part, has issued a press statement Saturday demanding an end to such anti-development and violent activities and urged the administration to safeguard the children´s right to education.
Police said all the bombs found so far in the district have been locally made. “Since there has been no loss of lives, it appears to be a ploy to terrorize the persons refusing to pay the money,” Chief District Officer (CDO) Rishi Ram Dhakal said.
