Bodies of six missing passengers retrieved

KATHMANDU, Sept 9: Bodies of all the six passengers who had gone missing in a boat capsize at Begnas Lake has been recovered. Yesterday, a boat carrying ten passengers had overturned after it lost balance while rescuing a five year boy, Prachin Paudel.

KATHMANDU, Sept 9: Bodies of all the six passengers who had gone missing in a boat capsize at Begnas Lake has been recovered. Yesterday, a boat carrying ten passengers had overturned after it lost balance while rescuing a five-year boy, Prachin Paudel.   


The incident took place at Libdi Tunda side of Begnas Lake in Kaski district on Saturday.

The child’s mother, Nisha had immediately jumped into the lake to rescue him, prompting the boat to lose its balance. The off-balance boat capsized as a result, throwing everyone into the lake. 


Those missing have been identified as five-year-old Prachin Paudel, seven-year-old Shankar Khanal, eight-year-old Shiva Khanal, four-year-old Ranjeet Gaire, Ravi Khanal, 32, and Manisha Bajgain, 17.


 “Two of the deceased, Bishnu Kumari Kandel (Bajgain), 51, of Pokhara Metropolis-28, and Jamuna Kandel (Gaire), 40, of Tanahun died while undergoing treatment,” Rabindra Man Gurung, spokesperson for the DPO.


Two of the 10 passengers were rescued alive by locals who jumped into the lake. Those rescued were Prachin’s mother Nisha and Sapana, both of whom swam to stay alive until being rescued by locals, Armed Police Force, and Nepal Army personnel.
