KATHMANDU, March 28: Bibeksheel Nepali Party, a breakaway faction of the Bibeksheel Sajha Party, filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court against the Election Commission (EC) for rejecting its application for party registration, on Wednesday.
The party moved the apex court against the election body's decision to reject its application registered earlier this year. In a press statement, the party has said that it was forced to move the SC to correct the EC's invalid decision. "EC's decision is a breach of law," the party stated.

The party has also made public the details regarding its strength required to be registered as a political party at the EC. According to the party, Bibeksheel Sajha Party had a total 37 central committee members when it was registered as the new party earlier last year, and 16 (more than 40% of 37) of them applied with the commission for registration of Bibeksheel Nepali.
In its statement, the party has argued that the party is eligible for registration as it meets the required 40% committee members as stated in the clause 33 (2) of Political Parties' Registration Act.
While rejecting the Bibeksheel Nepali party's appeal to register the party, the election body stated that it failed meet the required number of central committee members for party registration.
