BIRGUNJ, March 29: Birgunj bazaar opened after four days on Sunday evening following an agreement between the local authorities and the relatives of Sanjay Kumar Gupta, who was killed by an unidentified group on Thursday morning.

The protesters called off their "indefinite" strike after a meeting of the district security council decided to recommend to the center that Gupta be declared martyr and his family be provided compensation worth Rs 1 million.

Life in Birgunj had been hit hard by the strike called by locals and relatives of Gupta since Thursday.

Police said they detained six persons including Gupta’s friends Baiju Gupta, Shambhu Barnawal and Parmeshwar Gupta for investigation in connection with the killing.
