During the match held at Nepal Police Academy, Maharajgunj, Birgunj defeated Kathmandu Club 2-1 to occupy the top spot with 11 points from five matches. Madhyapur Youth Association, with 10 points from four matches, dropped to second position. Kathmandu, which has nine points, also dropped one spot to third.[break]
Nisan Nepali netted both the goals to help Birgunj register its third victory. Nepali had put Birgunj ahead in the 28th minute but Santosh Thapa hit back the equalizer for Kathmandu in the 37th minute. Nepali restored Birgunj´s lead again in the 68th minute.
In another match, a lone goal from Shyam Babu Magar steered Tusal to a 1-0 win over Chyasal Youth Club. Magar scored in the 62nd minute. Chyasal is in the fourth position with nine points from five matches.
Tusal has climbed to eighth position with eight points following the win. Despite having equal eight points as that of Tusal, Sankata, Boys Union, Pulchowk and Tusal are in the fourth to seventh positions respectively on the basis of goal superiority.
Host clinches Khadbari Gold Cup
The host Khadbari Youth Club on Tuesday claimed the title of Khadbari Gold Cup held at Khadbari, Sankhuwasawa. Khadbari defeated Armed Police Force (APF), Jhapa 2-0 in the final to secure the title.
Karun Chaudhary and Lele Magar netted one each in either half to delight large number of home fans. Chaudhary opened the scoring in the 19th minute and ensured the team´s victory in during the 40th minute of second half. [break]
The winner Khadbari bagged a purse of Rs 111,111 and the runners up APF-Jhapa satisfied with 55,000
In the third place playoff, Dangihat Club of Morang, saw off Deurali Club of Dhankuta 2-1. Rajin Dhimal and Anil Dhimal netted one each for Dangihat in the 15th and 18th minute respectively. Sudip Urau pulled one back for Deurali in the second minute of second half. Dangihat received Rs 25,000.
Deurali was declared the fair play team while Moti Thapa of APF bagged the best player´s award. Krishna Gopal Shrestha and Roshan Magar of host took home the highest scorer award. They have scored four goals each. Lucky Karki of Tumlingtar Sporting was declared the best goalkeeper.
Altogether 14 teams of eastern region had participated in the event.
Qatar Airways golf from Friday
Qatar Airways is organizing the Qatar Airways Open Golf Tournament 2011 on Friday and Saturday at the Gokarna Golf Club (GCC) in association with GCC.
According to Deepak Acharya, the senior golf director of Gorarna Forest Resort the tournament will be played over 18 holes on 3/4 stableford handicap format.
The organizers have expected participation of 100 golfers in three categories including men´s, women´s and junior section. Women´s and junior´s event will be held on Friday and men´s event on Saturday.
According to Ramdam Shivaram, country manager of Qatar Airways for Nepal, the tournament will be platform for a competition as well as fun. "I am confident that association with Golf and Gokarna Forest Golf Resort and size of the tournament will grow in years to come," Shivaram said.
Qatar Airwasy had been co-sponsoring golf tournaments since 2003.
The winner of men´s and women´s section will be awarded with two way tickets of any one destination operated by Qatar Airways. Qatar Airways flies to 100 destinations worldwide. The runners up of men´s and women´s section, junior winner, best gross, longest drive, closest to the pin and most birdies will also be awarded with attractive prizes.
The expected cost of the event is Rs 500,000.
Badminton team bade farewell
A two-member Nepali badminton team left for Malaysia on Tuesday to participate in the WBF Coaches Education Level 1 course.
The course is scheduled to start from December 1-7.
Senior coach Rajani Maiya and assistant coach Anil Kumar Lakhe were bade farewell by National Sposrts Council Member Secretary Yubaraj Lama.
Meanwhile, Deepak Thapa, Pratik Shrestha, Anup Shakya and Om Bikram Rana also left for Bangladesh on Tuesday to participate in BAC 2011 South Asia Umpires Development course.
The course will be held in Dhaka from December 2-6. After the completion of the umpiring course the team will attend Bangladesh International Series starting from December 7-10.
Annal Jyoti Cup in Dec
The 11th edition of the Annal Jyoti Cup Valley-wide Inter-school Volleyball Tournament is scheduled to begin from December 1 at the premises of Annal Jyoti School.
Organizing a press conference in the capital on Tuesday, the organizers said the tournament will feature girls´ and junior boys´ categories.
Altogether 10 teams are participating in the girls´ category while 12 teams are competing in the junior boys´ category. The boys´ category was cancelled due to controversy.
The organizers informed that they will also organize a national tournament in the women´s category.
Along with the host Annal Jyoti, Gyanodaya, GEMS, SEBS, Adarsha School, Bijeshwari, Little Angels´, Matri Shishu, Pyramid, Namuna English School, Bright Future, New Diamond, Ulysses, Parijat, Bhim School and New Diamond will participate in the tournament.
New Diamond Academy is the defending champion in the girls´ category while SEBS is the junior boys´ title holder. The tournament will be conducted in knockout format.
Cosmic, Greenwich into last four
Cosmic and Greenwich School have fixed their places in the semifinals of the sixth FECA Cup Inter-school Football Tournament after winning their respective matches on Tuesday.
Ashish Shrestha completed a hat-trick as Cosmic thrashed Hebron 5-0. Udip Rai added another goal for Cosmic while Hebron scored an own goal in the match. In another match, a goal each from Prashant Tamang, Jenson Lama and Sanjay Ghising guided Greenwich to a 3-0 win over AIMS. In the last match of the day, Kot Devi defeated Shramsheel 3-0.
St Xavier´s Godavari in quarters
St Xavier´s Godavari entered the quarterfinals of the 16th National Friar Moron Memorial Invitational Football Tournament on Tuesday thrashing Dolphin 6-0 to top Group A. In other matches of the day, defending champion Little Angels´ beat Green Lawn Academy 1-0 and St Xavier´s Jawalakhel defeated Kathmandu University School 2-0.
Host TIA, Oasis in quarters
Host TIA ´A´, Oasis and Universal booked their quarterfinal spots in the Ninth TIA Inter-school Basketball Tournament in the boys´ category winning their respective matches on Tuesday.
TIA ´A´ defeated Pennwood 36-24 with 20 points from Abhishek Gurung. Oasis beat Baylor 45-23 and Universal overcame Third Eye 26-22. In the girls´ category, Kasthamandap saw off New Summit 28-16 to secure a place in the last eight.
Nepal´s chess hopes end
Nepali chess players´ hopes of winning the Second Asian Amateur Chess Championship came to an end after the defeat of Rabindra Shakya in the eighth round on Tuesday.
Shakya had won the seventh round against Tan Jun Feng but lost to Tukiran Taulani in the eighth round. Shakya has five points from eight rounds and is ranked 21st with just one round to go. Olympiad Rajendra Prasad Shrestha could not add any points to his tally as he was defeated by Mayed Al Rashedi and Camilia Bt Johari in the seventh and eighth rounds respectively.
Shrestha has four points from eight rounds. Badri Prasad defeated Nizam Haziq Aiman in the seventh round but lost to Dinesh Siddharthan in the eighth round to take his tally to three points.
