District Veterinary Office (DVO), Bhaktapur said that it has culled 1,960 fowls following the confirmation of H5N1 virus in Himal Poultry Breeding Farm owned by Pravat Pasakhala of Sipadol-9, Bhaktapur on Saturday. The virus was confirmed on Friday by the Central Animal Health Laboratory.
The rapid response team comprising vet officials also destroyed 2,700 kg chicken feeds and 7,850 eggs found in Pasakhala´s farm. [break]
Officials at DVO claim that they have boosted surveillance as there are several poultry farms in the area.
Likewise, the Kathmandu DVO said that it has culled 1,516 chickens of parent type in poultry farm owned by Janak Thapa of Satungul-6, Bindabasini Mandir, Kathmandu on Saturday. The vet technicians have 804 eggs and 800 kg chicken feed stored in the farm. Out of 2,000 chickens, 386 had already died due to the disease, the Kathmandu DVO said.
Chief of Kathmandu DVO Bola raj Acharya said that the animal health laboratory confirmed the disease in Thapa´s farm. The Directorate of Animal Health (DoAH) has stepped up the surveillance at poultry farm in the Valley after continuous outbreak of the disease.
The office had culled chickens in three poultry farms on Friday. The Directorate of Animal Health (DoAH) said that the virus has been detected in 18 poultry farms in the last four weeks, in which over 55,000 chickens have been culled.
