Bird flu outbreak in Pokhara, 27 chickens culled

POKHARA, July 28: Veterinary technicians have culled 27 chickens here at a Lamachaur-based poultry farm owned by Roshan Pun following the confirmation of a bird flu outbreak, on Sunday.



According to Phadindra Dhakal, a veterinary technician at  the District Veterinary Office, Kaski, they destroyed the bird flu tainted chickens after the Kathmandu-based Central Animal Health Laboratory confirmed bird flu virus at his farm. [break]



Earlier, the poultry farm owner, Pun had informed the district veterinary office as the layer chickens which had been brought from Chitwan started to die.



The team of veterinary technicians have also destroyed eight kilograms of meat and five kilograms of chicken feed. Meanwhile, bird flu virus has also been detected in chickens locally reared at Setopairo Hanuman tole.
